Monterey Bay Communications: HP 1000 Beacon Newsletter
Volume 1, Issue 1
AHOY Hewlett-Packard 1000 Users!
Welcome to the HP 1000 Beacon, the first in
a continuing series for Real Time Users to be published by Monterey Bay
Communications. The RTE team at Monterey Bay is looking forward to supporting
HP 1000 A-Series and M/E/F Series well into the next century. The purpose
of this publication is to provide users with valuable information about
ongoing product and service offerings, and about pending changes in the
RTE environment.
Despite what some users may have heard, Hewlett Packard has made a
formal commitment to support HP 1000/RTE until the year 2010, including
yearly revisions of the operating system software through the year 2000.
There has been and will continue to be certain, older products that HP
will remove from hardware support over time. However, availability on the
majority of A-Series products is assured for at least the next fifteen
years! |
Ongoing software enhancements will be driven by user input
so it is vitally important that all HP 1000 users let their needs and continued
interest in using the platform be known. Release 6.2 for instance, will
address numerous defects in prior releases, improve upon the installation
process, and provide UNIX-like utilities and support for UNIX file tape.
The HP 1000 Series has entered a new era with the addition of the powerful
A990 processor and the new functionality available for RTE-A in the 6.0/6.1/6.2
release. Monterey Bay Communications currently offers very affordable A990
upgrade paths for all A-Series and E/F-Series users who want to take advantage
of this new product. Under this program, users gain access to improved
performance, SCSI peripheral support, and lower maintenance costs. We have
these A990 upgrade kits in stock! |
HP 1000 users need not worry. HP's commitment to supporting
the platform through the year 2010 is well-established and there is no
indication that it will change. Beyond this, to a great extent, user input
and participation will determine the quality and depth of support HP will
devote to the platform. It's up to you! |
